I was always told growing up that if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. After graduating from high school in 2018, I knew that college was going to be a part of my plan. I started at UNLV that fall and will be graduating two years early this December 2020.
So, what did I learn during this experience? I learned that college can equip you for the challenges you will face in your desired area of work. I chose to major in Communication Studies and took on a minor in Sociology as well. These were both areas that I thought would benefit my real estate career.
What I didn’t expect to happen as I worked through college was to develop a love for real estate even more. Going into college, I had already gotten my real estate license. I wasn’t working full time, so I didn’t have a chance to dive into the business the way I wanted to.
With my graduation just around the corner, it’s all becoming very real to me right now. And now, more than ever, I know why I love real estate and how I can apply what I learned in Communication Studies to my business.
Today, I want to share with you why I love being a real estate agent. I went into college as an Undeclared Major, which they glorified by calling it “Exploring Major.” This was a nice way of saying I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life.
Lucky for me, I had real estate, and here I am two years later ready to share the top three reasons why I love being in this business. So, here we go.
1. The Schedule
Real estate is a full-time job just like any other, but the time frame flexibility you have is perfect for the lifestyle that I want to live.
I’ve always found it to be the ideal day for me! I’m able to wake up, get my morning routine in, and jump right into work early. Since I work from home for the most part at the moment, there’s no commute time either (not considering the time I spend driving to properties with clients).
You’re truly able to schedule your work around what’s most important to you. Given there will always be times when there are schedule conflicts, I’ve always been able to work, go to school, and enjoy life on the side all in one day. It’s a huge perk of the business!
2. The Fulfillment
There’s nothing like handing your clients their new house keys or giving them the news of a great offer.
If you don’t feel like you are accomplishing something for the greater good, you may be lacking in the fulfillment area of your life.
For me, real estate gives me the job satisfaction that I need on a day to day basis. I’m also able to go to bed each night knowing that I’ve helped someone with one of the greatest purchases of their life – that’s fulfilling in itself.
3. The Self-Purpose
You work for yourself! This is pretty self-explanatory, but I’ll give you a bit more detail.
The biggest advantage to real estate, being a commission-based industry, is that you’re able to determine how much you make. Depending on the level of effort you contribute, you will begin to shape your own future.
I never wanted to work for someone else. I wanted to be in charge of my future and what I felt responsible for. While you still answer to your broker (unless you are one), being in real estate has given me a lot more control over my future.
I gain my self-purpose by knowing that everything I do is for me and not for someone else. The relationships I build, the money I make, and the time I spend working all go towards my own purpose and not some company’s interests.
There you have it! That’s why I love being in real estate, and I’m sure you can get a sense of why!
Hopefully, this was able to encourage you to get into the industry if it was something you had been considering!
